Light has been a continual presence as both subject and concept throughout the history of the arts, yet the ways in which light has been interpreted evolves over time. My current work is a meditation on digital light. The sole light source for my paintings comes from a screen, which with its cool digital flickering manipulates and redefines space. The digital age has brought us a new era of illumination: glowing rectangles that demand our attention. These screens seem essential to all aspects of our day-to-day, and we engage with the electronic glow in a religious fervor.
The light we live by today is not what others have experienced in the past. I am using this pursuit as a way to gain perspective on our screen culture as we globally gather around the digital hearth.
